It's Inevitable!
We are having a whopper of a wind storm right now. It has been blowing for a couple days, but today it is really getting going. We have a little weather station in Corbett that has measured a gust this afternoon at 62 MPH. See http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesonet/getobext.php?wfo=pqr&sid=C2664&num=60&raw=0&banner=off%20--- for the latest.
The pictures above are of the alder tree in the middle of the driveway. It lost one of its two tops on Saturday and the other is a time bomb. I have moved all of the vehicles out of its suspected drop zone. The first picture shows the scar where the first top broke off and below that you can see the crack that is growing. The bottom picture is a profile of the whole tree. We like the excitement... DMP

Professional fallers quit when the wind hits 10 mph...With our sustained 25+ I figured I shouldn't push my luck. Nature took care of it last night anyway. dmp

Cool.

The other night on tv there was a winter storm warning for Tucson. All it said is that it would drop down to freezing. We hit a bone-chilling 31 degrees!
