Blogging on a Regular Basis

I have ideas for things to blog about all the time. For some reason they never make it to paper. I want to do better, we'll see how that works out.
A couple years ago I didn't concern myself with what was going on in the world of politics. I think the sad state of affairs has gotten my attention. I am regularly amazed at the under handed tactics of the people involved.

Right now in Oregon there are two measure for vote that involve raising taxes. So why is it that every time there is a shortage of revenue education is the first to get cut? Generally the voting base in a State are families with children that need educating. So instead of cutting other state programs that are of questionable usefulness they cut education. So when they want to raise taxes it only makes sense that the measure passes because the schools are the ones taking the hit and the voter base doesn't want that to happen.

Besides education is rarely a pet project of the politicians, it is a service that government is obligated to provide. So the pet projects' dollars are closely guarded and education is the common target because they know the people will pony up the funds.

One the measures attachs corporate taxes. Last time I checked large companies inject huge amount of money into a state's economy through wages and commerce. If a state makes the economic climate unattractive companies will move elsewhere...

The hidden agenda is pretty low...

One of the reasons that Oregon hits the education issue is that the majority of the tax revenue collected in the state goes to education. I'm sad those two measures passed. They didn't get my vote. Notice the tax cuts on people with higher income made by the Bush administration expire this year so they will get hit twice. The tax measure on businesses was wrong on so many points, especially on gross sales and reto-active to 2009. The reason so many people vote for those kinds of measures is that they believe it won't effect them. Where do they think a business gets it's money?
